About Greg

Transforming Education from the Inside Out

Greg Green is an internationally recognized education innovator who created the first fully flipped high school in the United States at Clintondale High School in Clinton Township, Michigan.

Faced with a school rated among the worst 5% in Michigan — with 35% failure rates and a $5 million debt — Greg pioneered a radical approach: flip the classroom. Move lectures home via video, and transform class time into hands-on, teacher-guided active learning.

His breakthrough insight came from coaching Little League baseball: making technique videos for players to review at home transformed practice. He asked, “If it works for baseball, why not the classroom?”

The AI-Era Imperative

Foundations Before AI

In today's AI-powered world, the flipped classroom is more relevant than ever. Before students can effectively leverage AI tools, they must first develop observable foundational skills.

Reading Comprehension

Deep understanding of texts builds the foundation for evaluating AI-generated content and identifying misinformation.

Critical Writing

Clear, structured writing ensures students can articulate ideas and craft effective prompts for AI systems.

Typing Proficiency

Fluent typing enables efficient human-computer interaction, essential for productive AI collaboration.

Problem-Solving

Independent analytical thinking ensures students use AI as a tool to amplify skills, not replace them.

From Content to Mastery

How teachers ensure students master foundational skills before engaging with AI

1

Teacher Shares Content

Teacher records or curates instructional content for students to review at home — videos, readings, or interactive lessons at their own pace.

2

Live Practice Session

In class, the teacher watches each student practice the skill — writing, solving problems, reading critically — observing their process in real time.

3

Assess Understanding

Teacher confirms the student has demonstrated mastery of the foundational skill. No shortcuts — the competency must be observable and verified.

4

Now Use AI

Only after mastering the fundamentals does the student use AI — as a tool to amplify their proven skills, not as a crutch to replace them.

The flipped model ensures students build core competencies through active learning and teacher guidance, so when they engage with AI, they're using it as a tool to amplify their skills — not replace them.

A Flipped School

“Sometimes Our Greatest Solutions Come from the Most Unlikely Places!?”

This book details Clintondale's transformation from one of Michigan's worst-performing schools to a nationally celebrated model of innovation. It offers practical, actionable guidance for educators ready to implement flipped learning in their own schools.

Also featured as a key case study in "Great at Work" by Dr. Morten Hansen (NYT Bestseller), exemplifying the principle of working smarter, not harder.

Voices of Impact

Stories of Transformation

When Green announced flipped learning to students, they gave a standing ovation — signaling their desire to learn with technology and active engagement.

Student Response at Clintondale

Green's success was achieved not by making teachers and students work longer hours, but by redesigning the educational process itself — exemplifying the principle of working smarter, not harder.

Dr. Morten Hansen, "Great at Work"

After 20 weeks, the flipped class outperformed the traditional class — and no student received lower than a C+. This despite having a higher proportion of at-risk students.

Clintondale Pilot Study Results

The flip is about pedagogy, not gadgets. Focus on the potential benefits and the underlying research before prioritizing technology.
